About John Bailey John Bailey has been teaching gifted and other special needs children for over thirty years. He has worked as an education consultant (and teacher/administrator) for the past fifteen years and is Perth's most experienced consultant working in the field of gifted education. John has extensive practical classroom and administrative experience in developing and managing programs for children with a wide range of special needs (including; learning disabilities, ADHD and giftedness). He has taught (and continues to teach) in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors in the state and private sectors. His qualifications, received from UWA include a B.A, B.Ed (special education), & M.Ed (gifted education). John also spent 12 months as a visiting scholar at Cambridge University where he conducted extensive research in the area of gifted education. John's work with parents and children focuses on understanding all aspects of giftedness and the implications high ability may have for social, emotional and intellectual development at home, in day-care settings and at school. He can assess children, explain the implications of psychometric assessments and provide liaison and mediation services (bridging gaps between home and day-care or school). John has worked with well over a thousand families in Western Australia. John also offers extensive professional development opportunities to schools (in all areas of special needs education). He is able to work with teachers in managing many different aspects of education in all year levels and contexts - for gifted and high ability students as well as students with a range of other special learning needs. John can provide a wide range of programs, strategies and resources to staff. All professional development sessions can be tailored to very specific needs. John was the inaugural life member of the Gifted and Talented Children's Association of WA (GATCAWA) and spent close to fifteen years involved as an executive member of, education advisor to, or president of the Association. John has been a highly successful coach (at National and International level) of the internationally respected Future Problem Solving Program, and was inaugural state coordinator of the program. John has coached 20 teams to National or International Finals. John has presented extensively at local, state, national and international conferences and holds regular seminars and workshops for educators and parents. |
